America’s Political Process
Statistically, I can prove that the current political process only works if our leaders vote against their true principles. They regularly vote against issues that they value, or support something they don’t.
That is why if you ever look at the voting records of most politicians, you will find that voting is currently about 90% party line. As recently as the early 1970s, party unity voting was closer to 60%.
If you look at the Democratic and Republican platforms on all the potential topics for UberDiscourse, everyone understands that each party has a different slant.
Now imagine that you took 535 people and put half on one side and half on the other. It is statistically impossible, due to the diversity of the topics, that each group will think the same way on every single issue.
Suppose we now call half of them Democrats, and the rest Republican, they all fall into line.
Each politician now knows what their beliefs are supposed to be, or basically, what they are allowed to say to us. Heaven forbid, if they step out of line.
Most but not all, so-called Independents generally caucus with one party or the other on all issues.
The politicians in our current system value maintaining their office, and resultant power, more than maintaining their character.
No longer do we even attempt to get together.
